Collaboration with designer Igor Kurkin. We based the design on Roger Tallon's modular spiral staircase. The shape of the shelving unit resembles a whale's spine, a gigantic, noble, and beautiful animal. But it's not a whale. That's important. It's a vertebra. Which, by the way, is what Vertebra means in translation. And one of the vertebrae is dark, bronze . Like a flaw on an otherwise perfect spine. Through the issue of whale extinction, the Vertebra shelving unit speaks to the dire plight of mammals, the extinction of animals, and environmental issues in a broader sense. Beauty must be in harmony with nature. The animalistic and eco-themed message of the new interior design piece needed to be supported by its material, so clay, the most natural, the most organic material on the planet, was chosen. DirtyHands Studio is ready for experimentation and bold challenges: the Vertebra shelving unit is one of the largest ceramic furniture pieces to date. Vertebra is a construction set that can be used to assemble objects for various purposes.
