Vertebra means vertebra. The Vertebra shelving unit, created in collaboration with designer Igor Kurkin, is not only a piece of product design but also a social project. The shelving unit's shape resembles a giant whale spine. In the first version of the shelving unit, one of the vertebrae was dark, as if a flaw on an otherwise perfect spine. Through the issue of whale extinction, the Vertebra #1 shelving unit addresses the dire plight of mammals, the extinction of animals, and environmental issues in a broader sense. symbolizing the environmental problems that lead to the extinction of animals. In the new Vertebra #2 shelving unit, this issue is emphasized by the metal structure that wraps around the shelving unit. This bracket, this vice, this iron hand of man and "machines," exterminating and oppressing rare animals and nature. Furthermore, this new design element allows the shelving unit to be mobile, easily moved around, increasing its usable space. The combination of light and dark tones will easily fit the shelving unit into any modern interior, becoming a unique accent.
